Kansas basketball is interested in recruiting lengthy international center

Kansas basketball has already signed four players for 2026, but they aren't done. Bill Self is looking at a 7-foot-1 center from Cameroon named Amadou Seini.

Kansas basketball head coach Bill Self could be eying an international player from Cameroon for next year. Amadou Seini is 7-foot-one, with a reach that is two inches longer.

Self is already bringing an impressive class of young recruits to campus next season, all of whom are ranked in On3’s top 120 prospects. Shooting guard Luke Barnett (119th), small forward Trent Perry (102nd), power forward Davion Adkins (31st), and point guard Taylen Kinney (15th) make up a well-rounded class that already ranks above the nation’s best.

The only thing missing is a true center, a role in which Seini could fill, though he might be a bit of a project. Joe Tipton of On3 reported that KU was among the teams interested in Seini.

How would Amadou Seini fit in the Kansas basketball class of 2026

Currently, Kansas has four seniors on their roster, and it is most certain that Darryn Peterson will go to the NBA after this season. That leaves five scholarships Self has to fill as of right now.

Self also has a verbal commitment from small forward Javon Bardwell, the 15th-ranked prospect from the class of 2027. He may reclassify into the 2026 class, taking up that fifth opening.

Of course, in this era of NIL deals, there is always some attrition from season to season. It seems unlikely that Kansas wouldn’t lose a player or two to the transfer portal. KU will probably have another couple of scholarships available.

While Flory Bidunga could use another year of experience and polish, he could also declare for the NBA, possibly freeing up yet another spot. Having Bidunga next season would certainly put Kansas in contention for a national title.

If Bidunga stays, and if rising star Bryson Tiller stays for another year, the Jayhawks will have a lot of size when you add in Adkins and current freshman project Paul Mbiya. Still, KU saw what the combo of size and athleticism can do in today’s college game in their losses to North Carolina and Duke.

Both of those ACC schools feature a lot of height, length, and athleticism. Both teams are going to be a tough matchup for whoever they play. Adding another player with Seini's size to the Kansas roster wouldn’t be a bad thing.

Even if both Bidunga and Tiller stay another year, it will give players like Mbiya and Seini plenty of time and opportunity to develop their skills under Self’s tutelage.

Adding a project like Seini makes a lot of sense for KU,  so don’t be surprised if you start seeing his name crop up in the future.
