It has been a season for the record books for the Kansas baseball team. The Jayhawks are ranked seventh in the country. It is the highest that KU has ever been ranked.
Kansas won all four of its games last week, which included one at Wichita State and three others against Arizona State. The Jayhawks had a 10-game winning streak before dropping a 13-inning thriller on the road at Creighton.
KU holds a four-game lead in the Big 12 with a 20-4 conference record (37-12 overall). The Jayhawks have six games left, with three at home against second-place West Virginia and three at BYU.
This may be the greatest season in Kansas baseball history
While the run the Kansas baseball team has been on is incredible, the 1993 team made it to the College World Series in Omaha, eventually finishing seventh. That team went 45-18 on the season and 17-9 in Big Eight play.
While the current Jayhawks are having a splendid season, the final judgment on the success of the team is how far they can go in the NCAA Tournament. If they can reach the College World Series, they will be at least on equal footing with that 1993 squad. If they can win a game in Omaha, the 2026 team will indeed be the best KU team ever.
Since going 4-3 in the 1993 NCAA Tournament on the way to the College World Series, the Jayhawks have won just five games against 10 losses since. KU went 0-2 last season and hasn't won a game in the tourney since 2014.
It won't take much to solidify a spot as one of the top two teams ever in school history, and a win in the College World Series will secure the legacy that this team has been building.
Here are some of the accomplishments of the 2026 Kansas baseball team:
- Won 27 of their last 31 games
- Highest ranking in school history (seventh)
- A six-game winning streak
- A 10-game winning streak
- An 11-game winning streak
- A real chance to win the Big 12 regular season title
- May host NCAA regional games
It's been a great season, and fans are encouraged to get out to Hoglund Ballpark this weekend for the final regular-season home finale.
First pitch is set for 6 p.m. CT on Friday, with streaming available on ESPN+
