The Kansas baseball team continued its amazing run this weekend with a sweep in the Sunflower Showdown. It is the first time the Jayhawks have swept a series of at least three games at Kansas State since 1963.

The Jayhawks stretched their blazing hot streak to 17 wins in their last 18 games. KU also climbed to 11th in the nation, their highest ranking of the season.

With 11 games to go in the regular season, Kansas holds a slim three-game lead in the Big 12 conference standings. Arizona State and UCF are tied for second and chasing the Jayhawks.

KU had its bat going while at Kansas State. In the three-game series, the Jayhawks scored an outstanding 37 runs. Kansas won the three games by the scores of 18-6, 10-8, and 9-7.

The most exciting game of the series for the Jayhawks was the middle one. The Jayhawks scored three runs in the top of the eighth but allowed five in the bottom of the inning. Then KU answered with five runs of their own in the top of the ninth.

This stretch has been incredible for the Jayhawks. They've won five games against ranked teams. They've also won nine of 10 on the road.

The offensive explosion at Kansas State was so tremendous, KU raised its batting average six points on the year to .294. Their on-base percentage went up two points to .401, and their slugging percentage went up an incredible 14 points over the three-game sweep, rising to .511.

Kansas has a one-game matchup at Wichita State on Tuesday before hosting Arizona for three games this weekend. The Jayhawks need to continue their amazing play down the stretch if they hope to win their first Big 12 baseball title.
