Jayhawks OL earns honor from PFF after Kansas football's Sunflower Showdown loss
There haven’t been many positives to come from the Kansas football season. The Jayhawks dropped to 2-6 after a heartbreaking defeat to K-State in the Sunflower Showdown, essentially ending the hopes of KU achieving anything successful in 2024.
If there is one position group that has stood out thus far, it would be the offensive line. While the big boys in the trenches have struggled to pass protect at times, they have done a solid job overall. A large part of that is due to the contributions of Logan Brown, who has been one of the best right tackles in football. His strong performance against the Wildcats earned him a spot on Pro Football Focus' National Team of the Week.
Logan Brown has been a pleasant surprise for Kansas football
Brown was PFF's highest-rated right tackle in college football in Week 9. It was the second time this season he was named to the National Team of the Week and his third appearance on the Big 12 Team of the Week. Quite an impressive feat for the young Jayhawk.
A former 5-star prospect in high school, Brown transferred from Wisconsin to Kansas because he could not find a consistent role in Madison. He redshirted his junior year at Kansas and emerged as a surprise starter on the offensive line. Given how highly touted he was coming out of high school, the talent was always there — Kansas just had to unlock it.
Although Jayhawk fans are unhappy with the team's performance this year, being rated this high through eight games is nothing to scoff at. The Jayhawks currently average 211.6 rushing yards per game, good for third in the Big 12. Things might be going a lot worse if Brown were not in the mix.
Through three weeks of nonconference play, PFF grades had Brown ranked as the No. 1 offensive tackle in the country. His numbers have since slipped, but he still remains top five in the conference. However, he is not the only player making strides on the O-line. Left guard Michael Ford Jr. and center Bryce Foster entered Week 9 ranked the highest-rated players at their respective positions.
Brown likely has the best chance of any offensive lineman on the roster to reach the next level. He is a 6-foot-6, 315-pound beast who is experienced and incredibly athletic at his size. NFL Draft scouts project him as a mid-round offensive tackle who could hear his name called on the draft podium at some point in the future.
