The great updates just won't stop coming in for Kansas and Bill Self. Obviously, the big news this week has been that 5-star wing Tyran Stokes committed to the Jayhawks. Well, he's not the only new 2026 playmaker ready to make the move to Lawrence soon too.
What's next for Kansas and Bill Self after landing 5-star Tyran Stokes?
In some breaking news, Kansas and Self have also landed the commitment from center Grant Mordini. This may be a name that flew under the radar for a lot of Jayhawks fans, as things went down a little under wraps this week. The 6-10, 210-pounder, currently unranked by 247Sports, took his official visit to Kansas on April 27 and then just announced on social media that he has committed to KU:

Will this prove to be a hidden gem for the Jayhawks? Per his 247Sports page, Mordini had scholarship offers from Kansas and the Kansas City Roos. According to 247's Michael Swain, Mordini will be on a full-ride scholarship and he will make his way to campus this summer. He played his high school ball in Illinois, but suited up for the Avon Old Farms Academy in Connecticut this past season for a prep year, per Swain.
While the lack of offers might be concerning for a lot of people, and understandably so, you can't teach the size that Mordini will bring with him to the program. With the right nutrition plan and practice time with the KU coaches, he could make an impact near the glass down the road for this team.
Also, now is not the time to doubt what kind of tricks Self has up his sleeve. We all learned that with Stokes, the nation's No. 1 player, announcing he was picking Kansas over Kentucky and Oregon on Inside The NBA. With Mordini on board, Self has six high school players joining the roster for next season, plus three transfers. The Kansas '26 haul is ranked No. 2 in the country per the 247Sports Composite rankings.
