Small forward Trent Perry will announce his college choice on Wednesday, and the Kansas basketball program made his top three, along with Maryland and TCU.

On Saturday, five-star point guard Taylen Kinney committed to Kansas and told Joe Tipton of On3 Sports that Kinney knew of another player who would commit to Kansas soon.

Could Trent Perry be who Taylen Kinney predicted would also come to Kansas?

There is no way to know for sure whether Kinney was referring to Perry until the latter announces live on Wednesday at 2:30 CDT on the CBS Basketball Channel. It seems like more than a coincidence.

Perry is the 105-ranked player in this recruiting class, according to 247Sports, and the 37th-best small forward. 247Sports is certain Perry’s voice will be the Jayhawks, rating it as a 100 percent possibility.

Adam Finkelstein, the Director of Scouting for 247Sports, thinks Perry will be a good role player. His scouting report highlights a couple of key areas where he has plenty of room for development, specifically his shooting.

“Perry has all the makings of an elite role player. He’s broadly built, has a naturally strong frame, big hands, high shoulders, and extremely long arms with a 7-foot-1 wingspan. While he’s a little undersized for a true wing, he plays bigger than his actual size and has no problem bodying up with bigger players because of his toughness and physicality…He does need to make strides with his shooting after going just 7% from three and 46% from the free-throw line in the EYBL. Overall, Perry is trending towards a valuable blend player who values the team, has defensive versatility, a high motor…”

Kansas head coach Bill Self likes physical guards. If Perry can turn into a strong rebounder, despite his size, and can be physical on the defensive end, he will be an excellent fit for the Jayhawks.

It’s evident that Self is trying to build for the future with youth, and Perry looks to be a terrific developmental option for next year’s roster.

With Kinney already in the fold, adding Perry would be a great start on the recruiting year for Bill Self and the Kansas basketball program. The Jayhawks will have at least five scholarships to offer next season, possibly as many as seven, so filling those known spots will be crucial to a successful recruiting effort.
