The Kansas basketball program is heading into a full reset after a rough ending to the 2024-25 season. After being bounced in the first round by Arkansas, the Jayhawks now find themselves with exactly zero scholarship players who saw court time returning next season. Yes, zero. That is a hard reset if there ever was one.
The first week of the transfer portal was brutal for KU, with five players jumping ship almost immediately. Some fans held out hope that AJ Storr would stick around for his senior season, but if there is one thing Storr loves more than basketball, it might just be packing his bags. On Thursday, he officially entered the portal, continuing one of the wildest journeys college basketball has ever seen.
AJ Storr’s basketball career is the definition of a journey
Storr has been everywhere. After playing at St. John's and Wisconsin, he transferred to Kansas with high expectations. He was supposed to be a star alongside All-American big man Hunter Dickinson, but instead, he was one of the biggest disappointments in the country.
He averaged just 6.1 points and 1.7 rebounds per game while shooting 38.4% from the field this season. His scoring average dropped nearly 10 points from the previous year, and his defensive struggles often had him stuck on the bench as Bill Self searched for better options.
Now, Storr is hitting the transfer portal again, which means he will soon be committing to his eighth school in eight years. You read that right. Before college, he played for Kankakee, Bishop Gorman, AZ Compass Prep, and IMG Academy. Since then, he has suited up for St. John's, Wisconsin, and Kansas. Whoever lands him next will be the latest stop on his never-ending basketball road trip.

Storr is not the only player bailing on Kansas. Flory Bidunga, Rylan Griffen, David Coit, Rakease Passmore, and Zach Clemence have also entered the portal. That leaves the Jayhawks with just three returning players — Elmarko Jackson, Jamari McDowell, and Noah Shelby — all of whom either redshirted or missed the season due to injury.
With such a depleted roster, Coach Self will have to attack the transfer portal aggressively to put talent around incoming freshman Darryn Peterson. One thing for sure is that Storr will not be a part of that plan. He is already on to his next destination... wherever that may be.
