Heading into the 2024-25 season, Wisconsin transfer AJ Storr was expected to be a game-changer for Kansas basketball. His athleticism and ability to attack the basket made him a highly anticipated addition to the Jayhawks’ roster. However, through 22 games, things haven’t gone as planned.
Storr has struggled on both ends of the floor, with his scoring production dropping significantly from last season. His efficiency has also taken a hit, as he is shooting below 40% from the field. Due to his underwhelming play, 247 Sports analyst Travis Branham recently listed Storr as one of the most disappointing transfer portal 'misses' of the 2024 cycle.
AJ Storr's short tenure at Kansas has been very disappointing
"There's no denying that AJ Storr's season at Kansas has been a big disappointment. During his sophomore season at Wisconsin, Storr was one of the most explosive scorers in the Big Ten... Looking back on my ranking and evaluation of Storr, I am actually not too mad at the miss he's panned out to be. It was clear throughout his career that he had talent but also glaring warts. When he picked Kansas, I knew it was going to be a 'sink or swim' scenario for him due to Bill Self's style of play."Travis Branham
Branham noted that he knew Storr was a very hit-or-miss kind of player. When he's at his best, Storr is one of KU's most dynamic offensive threats, as he demonstrated in a breakout performance against TCU a couple of weeks ago. However, when he is off his game, he forces ill-advised jumpers and becomes a defensive liability.
Last season, Storr led Wisconsin in scoring, averaging 16.8 points per game while helping the Badgers secure a No. 5 seed in the NCAA Tournament. He was expected to bring that same offensive firepower to Lawrence, but he hasn't looked entirely comfortable in KU’s system. His role within the offense often remains uncertain.
While Storr showed flashes of potential early in the season, his short leash under Self remains evident. The Jayhawks are entering a crucial stretch, and if Storr wants to earn meaningful minutes in high-pressure situations, he needs to prove he can be a dependable asset on both ends of the floor.
