Kansas basketball mentioned as potential destination for dismissed K-State player
Kansas basketball has reportedly expressed interest in Nae’Qwan Tomlin, a former K-State forward who was dismissed from their program a few days ago.
Kansas basketball head coach Bill Self has been talking about the possibility of a midseason addition for several months, and with the semester coming to a close, now would be the time to bring a new guy on board. A name has surfaced — just not one that you would’ve expected.
Nae’Qwan Tomlin had not played all season for the K-State basketball program due to his arrest in October for disorderly conduct and was dismissed from the team this week. It didn’t take long for other coaches to contact the talented JUCO product.
Anonymous college basketball insider Trilly Donovan mentioned six schools in play for Tomlin — Georgetown, Miami (FL), West Virginia, Oregon, Providence, and Kansas.
K-State Athletic Director Gene Taylor had the final say with Tomlin because it was not a unanimous decision. According to CJ Moore of The Athletic, Tomlin has entered the transfer portal and is immediately eligible to enroll at a new school. The 6-foot-10 forward averaged 10.4 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 1.2 steals in his lone season with the Wildcats.
Hundreds of Wildcat supporters oppose his dismissal and believe AD Taylor made the wrong decision. However, there have been reports that he engaged in a bar fight with a woman, something a K-State student mentioned when protesters came out to defend him:
“I think it’s stupid, I mean, he punched a girl in the face and fought security after a bar closed,” an anonymous student told K-State’s student-run newspaper. “Actions have consequences. Doesn’t matter if you’re good at basketball… It’s stupid and they look like idiots.”
While Kansas basketball fans likely don’t want somebody like Tomlin on their team after the whole Arterio Morris fiasco, it definitely came as a surprise to see the Jayhawks among the list of schools open to bringing him in.
