5-star combo guard Jalil Bethea committed to the Miami Hurricanes over Kansas basketball and Villanova on the 247 Sports YouTube channel.

One of the fastest-rising prospects in the 2024 recruiting class has committed to Miami.

Jalil Bethea, who is the No. 7 player on both the ESPN 100 and 247 Sports Composite rankings, will not be a Kansas Jayhawk despite considering them for the better part of five months.

The 6-foot-4 combo guard skyrocketed the rankings after a strong junior season, leading the Philadelphia Catholic League in points scored, points per game, and 3-pointers made during the 2022-23 high school athletic season.

The Archbishop Wood student visited Kansas on Aug. 31 along with Liam McNeeley and Derik Queen, though McNeeley is the realistic target for the Jayhawks between the two. He took trips to Miami and Villanova as well, his other finalists, before coming to a decision.

College basketball insider and anonymous social media personality Trilly Donovan reported that he committed to The U on his official visit. Those reports seem to be in line with the events that transpired today.

Jim Larrañaga and the Hurricanes now have one of the most dynamic scorers in the upcoming graduating class. Bethea dominated on the EYBL circuit this summer, averaging 18.9 points per game on 49.8% field goal shooting and 42.0% 3-point shooting.

Bethea can score in a variety of ways. His pull-up jump shot game is off the charts, and he plays at a lightning-quick pace. He should be a future NBA Draft pick with his tremendous talent.

Although he would have been a huge get for Bill Self and the Kansas basketball program, there will be other recruits along the way that they can acquire. Labaron Philon, a fellow combo guard in the Class of 2024, will take an official visit this weekend, signaling that the coaching staff had been expecting Bethea to go his separate ways from KU.
