Kansas football 2024 schedule: Confirmed opponents, what we know
With the 2023 Kansas football season less than two weeks away, we looked ahead to what we know about the following year’s schedule.
The much-anticipated Kansas Jayhawks football season will begin on Sep. 1 against Missouri State. They’ll follow that up with two other nonconference games against Illinois and Nevada, respectively. Finally, they’ll end the regular season with nine contests against Big 12 schools.
However, schedules will be much more complicated after Texas and Oklahoma depart for the SEC. Conference realignment has the rest of the Big 12 in a frenzy. Heading into the year after this, there will be a total of 15 other teams (not including Kansas) looking to schedule games.
That leads us to the question: What do we know about the 2024 Kansas football schedule?
For starters, we know their nonconference slate in its entirety. The Jayhawks will begin the year against Lindenwood on a Saturday. In fact, Kansas will be the Lions’ first FBS opponent in school history. Knowing that they have never played an FBS school suggests KU should blow by them fairly easily.
Game two will be much more challenging, as KU will head to Champaign to face Illinois. The two schools scheduled a home-and-home in football a year ago with it beginning this season in Lawrence.

Finally, nonconference play ends against UNLV in David Booth Memorial Stadium. They have played twice in school history, with the all-time series split one-to-one. The Rebels have struggled greatly in recent seasons, winning just seven games since 2020.
As for how conference play will be scheduled the Big 12 has yet to release any details. They should come out around the midpoint of the next offseason. Early indications suggest Kansas will play K-State in the annual Sunflower Showdown, but not much is known besides that.
