The Big 12 released the conference schedule format for the 2023-24 season. Find out who Kansas basketball will compete against without the traditional round-robin in play.
Conference realignment has been one of the hottest topics in all of college sports — and the Big 12 has been at the forefront of those conversations.
Cincinnati, BYU, UCF, and Houston all moved over from their respective conferences to join the Big 12 for the near future. Meanwhile, longtime members Texas and Oklahoma will depart for the SEC following the conclusion of the 2024 sports season. There has been plenty of shuffling since Commissioner Brett Yormark took over on Aug. 1, 2022.
In the past decade, the Kansas Jayhawks basketball schedule has been quite simple. It has consisted of a home-and-home between each of the nine Big 12 schools, totaling 18 conference games per year. But with four newcomers waltzing in, schedule-making was much more complex this offseason.

Kansas basketball will still, of course, have to play each school at least once. And they’ll still compete in 18 conference games — KU will just play some schools more than others.
The Jayhawks will face off against Baylor, Kansas State, Houston, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma State twice — once in Allen Fieldhouse and once in their home stadium. Bill Self’s squad will see five schools a pair of times.
BYU, Cincinnati, TCU, and Texas will play Kansas basketball once this season. Those matchups will take place on the Jayhawks’ home court. UCF, Iowa State, West Virginia, and Texas Tech will host KU on their homecourt but won’t travel to Allen Fieldhouse.
To break it down in an easier way, this is the format in bullet points:
Home-and-home:
- Baylor
- Kansas State
- Oklahoma
- Oklahoma State
- Houston
Home only:
- BYU
- Cincinnati
- TCU
- Texas
Away only:
- UCF
- Iowa State
- West Virginia
- Texas Tech
It could be the final time the Sooners and Longhorns play Allen Fieldhouse in a long, long time. It’ll also be the first time that BYU and UCF square off against Kansas basketball in school history.
Dates and times have not yet been released, but those should come out in August. Conference play should be a fun yet hectic time with the new scheduling format.
