Marcus Adams Jr. requested a release from his NLI for Kansas basketball yesterday. Jayhawks fans might be worried, but these are three reasons his departure doesn’t harm KU.

It hasn’t been your typical Kansas Jayhawks offseason.

For starters, there are only nine scholarship players anticipated to join the team when the regular season commences on Nov. 6. Four players were acquired via the transfer portal, three are returning from last year, and two are incoming freshmen. It’s unlike anything we’ve seen before.

Considering Marcus Adams Jr. announced his departure from the program, it would be a reasonable reaction to hit the panic button over KU’s depth situation. Assuming the Jayhawks don’t pull Zach Clemence’s redshirt, there will be only one player on the bench to stand above 6-foot-4.

But fear not, Kansas basketball fans! Even if Adams had some potential, this move has little to no impact on the upcoming season. In fact, it opens up opportunities for more talented players to board the roster. With that being said, these are three reasons why Marcus Adams Jr. leaving KU doesn’t hurt the Jayhawks.
