No. 6: Gradey Dick (2022-2023)

Kansas basketball career stats: 36 games, 14.1 PPG, 5.1 RPG, 1.7 APG, 44.2% FG

This is the spot where ranking these players became extremely difficult. Were there times that he could have been better? Sure. But by no means did Dick disappoint during his time at KU.

He was lethal from 3-point range and had an extremely high motor that allowed him to grab offensive boards. Having the privilege of a sharpshooting 6-foot-8 wing is incredibly valuable for a head coach, especially in today’s game. Dick was also a sneaky good athlete when he wasn’t standing behind the arc.

We’re only a few months removed from watching Gradey play under the Allen Fieldhouse lights, so his game is more fresh in our minds than others. I wanted to put him higher on this list, but being as much of a defensive liability as he was makes that difficult. His inability to guard other Big 12 talents often overshadowed what he brought to the table offensively.

It’s probable that Dick will have a more fortunate NBA career than most players on this list (especially because Kansas has produced several draft busts). All Jayhawk fans hope he does great with the Toronto Raptors. Regardless, though, his accomplishments at KU forced me to give the edge to the No. 5 player on our rankings.
