The fifth official visitor for Kansas football from this past weekend committed to the university — another highly touted cornerback, Jalen Todd.
Jalen Todd committed to the Kansas Jayhawks this evening over Iowa, West Virginia, Auburn, Michigan, Florida, and many others. Todd is a 3-star cornerback from Southfield, Michigan, which is a suburb of the Detroit area.
Todd is rated as the No. 451 player in the 247 Composite rankings and could be a 4-star prospect with just a slight bump up (No. 434 is the last four-star prospect). Todd is the tenth commitment in the 2024 recruiting class for the Jayhawks, and he joins Isaiah Marshall, Aundre Gibson, Jonathan Kamara, Austin Alexander, Carson Bruhn, Harry Stewart, Red Martel, Harrison Utley, and Jacorey Stewart. Alexander, who committed recently, is ranked just 39 spots higher than Todd and plays the same position of cornerback.
Todd had been considered an Iowa lock for quite some time, but the KU coaching staff swooped in and picked up a commitment from him just days after his visit concluded. It’s the second defensive back that assistant coach Jordan Peterson has added from this weekend’s slate of visits.
It is safe to say Lance Leipold and crew are hot on the recruiting trail over the last week, picking up five commitments over that span. Todd is a huge addition to what looks like a historic 2024 recruiting class for the Jayhawks.

The Detroit connection the Jayhawks have built since Leipold took over three years ago has been very impressive. The Jayhawks’ linebacker coach Chris Simpson has been the main contributor to developing the Detroit pipeline. Simpson has become one of the better recruiters in the Big 12, and he has certainly shown that so far in the 2024 recruiting cycle.

Simpson has brought in Jameel Croft, Isaiah Marshall, Marvin Grant, Kalon Gervin, Cornell Wheeler, and Rich Miller, all of who are from the Detroit metro area. Some have questioned Kansas’ staff’s ability to recruit high-level power five high schoolers, and those questions are being thoroughly answered in this recruiting cycle. Todd’s commitment is a pleasant surprise for fans.
Kansas football continues to build on the momentum of last season and looks to capitalize on it further this week with another loaded official visit list on tap.
