Kansas basketball: Hunter Dickinson’s only goal at KU is to win a national championship
Kansas basketball’s Hunter Dickinson spoke with the media on why he committed to the Jayhawks and elaborated on his excitement to play in Lawrence.
Hunter Dickinson committed to the Kansas Jayhawks over the likes of Kentucky, Maryland, and Villanova. He made that decision with one objective in mind — to win a national championship.
Dickinson spent his first three seasons of college basketball with the Michigan Wolverines before entering the transfer portal this offseason. His lifetime averages are 17.2 points and 8.4 rebounds across 94 collegiate contests. He was a Consensus Second Team All-American in 2022 and made the All-Big Ten team each year of his career.
For the first time ever, we saw Dickinson sporting Kansas threads. During practice with several other Jayhawks, he answered multiple questions from reporters.
The most noteworthy quote of his media day should make Kansas fans even more encouraged to watch him play.
"“I can get you whatever you need, coach. Whatever it is, whenever it is, I’m just here to try to win another national championship…I just want to come here, try to affect winning, and try to lead my mark as best I can here.”"
These unselfish comments verify just how good of a teammate Dickinson is for those around him. He has already developed a close relationship with point guard Dajuan Harris, even telling a reporter he joked to him, “Man, if you don’t average 10 assists this year, it’s going to be your fault, man.”
As exciting as it will be to watch Dickinson’s impact on the court, it will also be fascinating to see how he impacts those around him. He is a fiery player who always shows emotion and seems to immediately have fallen in love with the university. In a nutshell, he is going to be revered in the state of Kansas for years to come.
