Kansas basketball transfer Ernest Udeh Jr. decided on TCU as his next destination, hoping to see a bigger role than he had with the Jayhawks.
The eighth and final transfer of the 2022-23 Kansas Jayhawks committed elsewhere yesterday, confirming that just three players from last year’s squad will return. Ernest Udeh Jr. is heading to KU’s interconference foe, TCU.
Udeh had high hopes coming into his freshman season, but a lack of playing time and difficulties with foul trouble soured his first and only campaign with Kansas. In 30 games, he averaged 2.6 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 0.6 blocks, coming off the bench in each contest he appeared in.
Coming out of high school, Udeh was the No. 32-ranked prospect in the Class of 2022 via 247 Sports. His high motor and defensive intensity made him a promising player for future seasons, yet he will be considered a “one-and-done” under Bill Self.

Among others, Udeh chose from TCU, Duke, and Kansas State. It seemed all but a lock for him to commit to the Blue Devils, but talks of him playing for Jon Scheyer died down in the past week. From now on, Kansas fans must witness Udeh twice a year during conference play.
Last season, TCU went 22-13 under seven-year head coach Jamie Dixon. They finished fifth in the Big 12 en route to a No. 6 seed in the NCAA Tournament and were eliminated by Gonzaga in the Round of 32.
Although the Horned Frogs lost several key pieces in the offseason, Delaware transfer Jameer Nelson Jr. is set to begin his first season in Fort Worth. With the addition of Udeh, TCU strengthens its roster tremendously and should be a middle-of-the-pack school in the Big 12.

Kansas basketball fans can now stop holding out hope for the return of the soon-to-be-sophomore. If the Jayhawks add any other pieces to the roster, they will have to extract them from the transfer portal.
