Nearly a dozen Kansas football players were recognized as some of the Big 12’s best in Athlon’s Preseason All-Conference teams.

Nobody could have seen it coming a few seasons ago, but the Kansas Jayhawks could finish as one of the top teams in the Big 12 this year.

Third-year head coach Lance Leipold has finally formed a competitive culture around Kansas football. His staff has developed several players into stars, such as Jalon Daniels, Devin Neal, and Cobee Bryant, all of who made Athlon Sports’ Preseason All-Big 12 First-Team.

Daniels has the loftiest expectations of the three, a player who was once considered a Heisman Trophy finalist in 2022 before his subsequent shoulder injury in Week 6 vs. TCU. However, a combined seven other Jayhawks made the Third and Fourth-Team.

This is the full list of KU players that were included:

  • QB Jalon Daniels (First-Team)
  • RB Devin Neal (First-Team)
  • OL Mike Novitsky (First-Team)
  • CB Cobee Bryant (First-Team)
  • TE Mason Fairchild (Third-Team)
  • OL Dominick Puni (Third-Team)
  • LB Rich Miller (Third-Team)
  • S Kenny Logan Jr. (Third-Team)
  • WR Lawrence Arnold (Fourth-Team)
  • LB Craig Young (Fourth-Team)

Kansas joined Big 12 powerhouses TCU and Oklahoma by having ten or more players on the list. It goes to show how amazing the ascent of KU’s football program has been.

Notable names on the All-Conference teams include Kenny Logan Jr., the teams leading tackler in 2022. In his fifth and final season of college ball, he should become one of the best safeties in the country. Additionally, Craig Young had 4.5 sacks last year, and Lawrence Arnold led the team in receiving yards. Each of these players has tremendous potential and will substantially grow.
