Kansas basketball great Thomas Robinson joins KU alumni on TBT team
The Kansas basketball alumni team in The Basketball Tournament (TBT) continues to tack on impressive talent — its most recent addition being KU legend Thomas Robinson.
Bill Self has coached several Kansas Jayhawks legends since he arrived in Lawrence in 2003. Thomas Robinson is among the best, as he accumulated 692 points as a junior and led KU to a national championship appearance in 2012.
He’s considered a bust in the NBA but is arguably a top-10 big man to ever step foot in Allen Fieldhouse. Despite not playing for an NBA team in over four years, T-Rob sits at the ripe age of 32 and still plays professional basketball in Puerto Rico. He will join the already-loaded KU basketball alumni team in TBT.
TBT has been very successful since its induction in 2014. It is a 64-team March Madness-type tournament with teams consisting of retired NBA and college basketball greats. KU’s squad is named Mass Street TBT.
Robinson joins Tyshawn Taylor and Keith Langford in the event. Langford is one of the most prolific scorers in KU history, while Taylor and Robinson formed a thrilling tandem to watch during the three years they played together. They will be coached by the Morris twins, who can not yet participate in the tournament because they are on NBA contracts.
Kansas’ team is certainly vintage — Taylor is 33, and Langford recently retired from basketball at 39 — but they might have the upper hand experience-wise over other squads.
Mass Street TBT will play between July 20-25 in the regionals. As always, it should be a fun occasion for all involved parties.
