Kansas baseball concludes regular season, will prepare for Big 12 Tournament
Kansas baseball lost in blowout fashion in its regular season finale vs. Texas Tech. Head coach Dan Fitzgerald has three days to prepare his guys for the Big 12 Tournament.
The Kansas Jayhawks had a disappointing ending to their 54-game regular season this Saturday. After a promising win to start their three-game set vs. No. 28 Texas Tech, KU fell in extra innings in Game 2 and lost 15-1 in the series rubber match.
Kansas finished the regular season at 24-30 with a record of 8-16 in conference play. Compared to their conference record of 4-20 in 2022, the program has vastly improved in the past year.
Although it was not the finale that skipper Dan Fitzgerald hoped for, Kansas still can extend its season on Wednesday in the first round of the Big 12 Tournament. It is KU’s first appearance in the tourney since 2019, as they are typically bottom feeders in the conference.

The Big 12 tourney begins at 12:30 PM CT on May 24th. No. 1-seeded Texas will face off against No. 8-seeded Kansas in Arlington, Texas, at Globe Life Field.
For what it’s worth, the Longhorns struggled with the Jayhawks earlier this month. UT won the series vs. Kansas but lost the first game 10-4 and needed a late-game rally to come out victorious in a 7-6 thriller in the third game.
It is a win-or-go-home game for the Jayhawks, who have no realistic shot at receiving an at-large tourney bid. Winning the Big 12 Tournament outright would grant them automatic entry into the NCAA Regionals. The season is at stake for everyone, so expect a hard-fought game between the two clubs.
