Kansas football is heading into the 2023 season with high expectations. What is the consensus on how they will perform this year?

Head coach Lance Leipold and the Kansas Jayhawks shocked the world of college football after starting off the 2022 season 5-0. Although they slumped and finished the season under .500, KU made a bowl game for the first time since 2008.

Led by their electric quarterback Jalon Daniels and rising star running back Devin Neal, Kansas can shake things up in the new-look Big 12 this year. BYU, Cincinnati, Houston, and UCF will join the conference, meaning the Jayhawks will square off against some unfamiliar faces.

The key for KU to succeed for back-to-back seasons is for Daniels to stay healthy and to have the defense step up. In 2022, Kansas’ opponents averaged 35.5 points per game, the eighth-worst average in D-I FBS. Top defensive players like Kenny Logan Jr. and Rich Miller are returning for their fifth seasons in hopes of bolstering the Jayhawks’ defense.

FanDuel Sportsbook recently released the over/under odds for Kansas football in 2023. How many games do they project the Jayhawks will win?

Over 5.5 (-154)
Under 5.5 (+126)

Is winning six games attainable for Leipold and company? Of course! Not only is it a plausible win total for the Jayhawks to reach, but it is rather low for a program that fulfilled that number last season and is on the rise.

Of course, Kansas will need to make significant improvements to reciprocate what they achieved last year. The defensive line lost several key contributors to the NFL and already struggled in 2022. Rather than attempting to outscore their opponents every game, KU must limit points on the defensive end as well.
