Kansas basketball: Mackenzie Mgbako sets commitment time for this afternoon
Mackenzie Mgbako announced he would commit this afternoon at 5:00 PM CT. Will he decide to play for Kansas basketball?
Plenty is at stake for the Kansas Jayhawks tonight as top-10 recruit Mackenzie Mgbako makes his (second) college decision. A post on his Instagram story revealed that he would make the decision at 5:00 PM CT.
The ex-Duke commit will be choosing between Indiana and Kansas.
He de-committed from Duke after Kyle Filipowski announced he would return for a sophomore season. Mgbako’s recruitment re-opened, and he took visits to St. John’s, Kansas, and Indiana, respectively. He canceled his Louisville visit and cut the Johnnies from his list days ago.

Mgbako is the second-highest-ranked high school recruit who is still uncommitted, trailing only Ron Holland. He is one of the best shooters in his class and supplies the Jayhawks with a much-needed wing player.
This is the scouting report that Adam Finkelstein of 247 Sports gave him coming out of high school:
"His shot-making from behind the arc is his best asset. He can also make the types of shots that translate to the next level – pick-and-pop threes, slipping out of ball screens to make shots on the move, or creating space with a series of side-step or step-back shots. The mid-post has long been a staple of his individual offense, but now he’s getting some easy points by moving without the ball more freely. Physically, Mgbako appears to be in the best shape of his career to date and was also productive enough on the glass to hold his own at the four. His swing skills are his defensive versatility and shot-creation abilities, both of which are rooted in his mobility, footspeed, and ability to play low to the ground when necessary. If those two areas develop, both his versatility and overall projection will go to new levels."
Mgbako will receive instant playing time wherever he heads, although his path to minutes will be slightly clearer with Kansas. The Jayhawks have just one scholarship player taller than 6-foot-7 on the roster, whereas Indiana returns 6-foot-9 forward Malik Reneau and brings in 6-foot-9 Miami (FL) transfer Anthony Walker.
It is paramount for next year’s team that he chooses Kansas — Mgbako is the cherry on top for KU to become the preseason No. 1 team.
