Top-five recruit and former Texas commit Ron Holland is receiving interest from Kansas basketball and several other programs.

Spring Bill Self has struck yet again. Nick Timberlake and Arterio Morris have committed to the Kansas Jayhawks, and Self and the rest of his coaching staff are searching for more pieces to bolster their roster. While Hunter Dickinson is the main attraction left, another name in mind could be a massive get for the Jayhawks.

The No. 6 recruit in the 247 Sports 2023 class, Ron Holland is a 6’8 power forward from Duncanville, Texas. He recently de-committed from the University of Texas and re-opened his recruitment process — a similar situation to Mackenzie Mgbako, who also has garnered interest from Kansas.

His recruitment process has just started back up, but Bill Self has already hopped on the train to do his best to land Holland. Kansas is one of many schools interested, including Kentucky, Kansas State, and others. He was also in contact with UCLA and Arkansas before choosing Texas, so those two schools may still be in the mix.

Holland brings a lot to the table. He is a rim protector that can run the floor. He’s an exceptional player in the paint, which the Jayhawks lacked with the undersized KJ Adams. Holland is an athletic big that has the ability to run a fast-paced offense for the Jayhawks, stretching the floor and running fastbreaks with Dajuan Harris. Holland has the potential to be an NBA star if he can develop a jump shot and continue to use his size with his athleticism as an advantage.

While there is a lot to work on, it’s nothing Bill Self will not be able to aid in developing. Holland is entering college with plenty of abilities, and his potential goes through the roof. As he matures as a basketball player, Holland could be one of the best one-and-dones KU has ever had and a top-10 NBA Draft pick.

Kansas isn’t necessarily his first choice, but Holland would be a great fit in Lawrence, Kansas, with how the team is currently structured. Bill Self definitely has a plan, and at the end of the day, Jayhawk fans should expect one or two more names to be on the roster during the 2023-24 season. If Ron Holland is one of them, he is going to be a great addition to a potential national championship-contending team.
