Despite a cold mid-April stretch for the Jayhawks, Kansas baseball picked up a ranked road win over Wichita State.

Kansas baseball is looking at another potential sub-.500 season, but they won against all odds on the road vs. the Shockers last night. A two-run single from Michael Brooks in the tenth inning was the eventual game-winner for KU.

Chase Jans continues to swing a hot bat at the leadoff spot, driving in a run and hitting a double. He is up to a .959 OPS on the season with six home runs and a team-high 39 RBIs. Jans even made the SportsCenter Top Ten Plays a few weeks back, ranking No. 2 for a double play he made in foul territory.

Starting pitcher Hunter Cashero struggled in this one, coughing up eight hits and three runs in 4 innings pitched. The bullpen picked him up with six innings of two-run ball.

The past few games have included some rough outings for manager Dan Fitzgerald’s squad. They had lost their past six conference games after being swept by Kansas State and Oklahoma State. A College World Series berth is out of the question for the Jayhawks, but it was an impressive victory nonetheless.

It was a true team effort that kept fans on their seat all game. There were four lead changes, and a rally in the ninth by the Shockers tied up the game. Fortunately, KU scored, and Kolby Dougan struck out the side in the bottom half of the tenth.

They begin a three-game set in Norman against the Oklahoma Sooners (22-19, 7-8) tomorrow evening. Kansas will then travel to Columbia, Missouri, to take on the Tigers (24-16, 5-13) in what should be a heated matchup.

Yesterday was an exciting day for all Jayhawk fans, as the women’s golf team received an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. They will play in the Athens region as the No. 9 seed.
