Harrison Ingram had been connected to Kansas basketball for weeks but did not even visit the school before committing elsewhere. Is Jaylon Tyson KU’s replacement?

One of the top transfer targets for KU chose the Tar Heels as his next destination. Despite picking up several crystal ball picks to Kansas, the former five-star recruit is heading to Chapel Hill for his junior season.

He would have been a noteworthy addition but is still a raw talent with a mediocre outside jump shot. Kansas had been linked to Jaylon Tyson a week ago, a transfer from Texas Tech. Tyson averaged 10.7 points with a terrific 48.3/40.2/72.3 slash line in 2022-23.

Assuming Kevin McCullar does not return, Tyson would be the perfect wing player to replace him. The incoming junior is an exceptional defensive player who offers size, rebounding, and shooting at the three spot. He might not even be a downgrade from Ingram, considering KU’s lack of shooting on next year’s roster.

Tyson transferred from Texas last year to head to Lubbock, so he has been affiliated with the Big 12 for quite some time. If he commits to Kansas, it would be his third Big 12 school in as many years. Additionally, he has two years of eligibility remaining if he does not leave school after his junior season.

While Tyson has confirmed that he will visit Kansas shortly, no date is scheduled yet. Currently, he is on an official visit to Cal, a team in dire need of some talent. The Golden Bears won three games in what was easily the worst season in school history. Auburn is also waiting on a date for Tyson to visit them.

The next few weeks will be stressful for Jayhawk fans as they await potential commitments. With two (or more) scholarships available and several targets off the table, there is no telling what next year’s Kansas basketball roster will look like.
