2015 – Perry Ellis

For as great of a career as Ellis had, he never did have one of those all-time great seasons like a lot of the guys on this list. He was, however, the clear best player on the 2015 team. A team that wasn’t young but also only featured one other senior who played more than 10 minutes per game, Perry was the perfect leader for a team that exuded swagger all around him. Guys like Graham, Wayne Selden, and Brannen Greene brought the edge, while the grizzled veteran simply went about his business. He started 109 games in his KU career and the loss to Villanova in the Elite Eight was one of the most devastating losses I’ve ever watched. A matchup with Oklahoma (a team they had beaten twice already) was waiting in the Final Four. Instead, heartbreak came in the last game of one of the best careers in Kansas history.
