What to watch for during 2021 spring practices

Rushing options

Gone are the days of “Pooka-Magic”, Kansas will have to re-direct its rushing efforts to the talent at hand.

Replacing Pooka following his departure early in the 2020 season, Velton Gardner seemed like an acceptable fit for the job. Unfortunately, he would miss considerable time due to injury concerns.

Turning the page, Kansas moved their faith into freshman Daniel Hishaw and Amauri Pesek-Hickson, who both found a decent number of touches in the bottom half of the schedule.

Hishaw was Kansas’ best choice during Gardner’s absence, as the freshman was averaging nearly 4.5 yards per carry at the end of the Jayhawks’ season.

Gardner, Hishaw, and Pesek-Hickson will be battling for the top job. Also joining the debate will be Devin Neal, who’s been sort of a local favorite since his commitment.

Kansas has a decent amount of speed on their running-back list. Hopefully, with some improvements from the offensive line, we’ll see more of their potential this spring.
