Kansas football: Game by game predictions for Jayhawks’ 2020 season
September 12, Kansas football vs. Coastal Carolina
To kick off the season, the Jayhawks will be taking on the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers, an FCS school. The Jayhawks were actually defeated by Coastal Carolina last season at home in an embarrassing 12-7 loss. The Chanticleers rubbed salt in the wound with some antics in their locker room that involved whacking a Jayhawk shaped piñata.
Kansas should have plenty of bulletin board material, to say the least.
Coastal Carolina went on to go 5-7 last season and 2-6 in the Sun Belt Conference. This year, running back CJ Marable should have a good season. The Chanticleers are solid at the quarterback position as well.
On the defensive side of the ball, that’s another story. They gave up over 30 points per game last season, and they’re only returning six starters. Kansas should be able to put some points on the board if they can find a capable quarterback to lead the Jayhawk offense.
No Power Five school should lose to an FCS school, but then again that’s exactly what happened last season. For this game, Kansas should be able to get the win. They have all of the motivation in the world, offensive coordinator Brent Dearmon had all offseason to work with the team, and there’s just no reason Kansas should fall at home to a team like Coastal Carolina.
Prediction: Kansas 34, Coastal Carolina 17
