Kansas basketball is more than capable of winning 30 or more games during the 2020-21 season despite losing valuable players.

Bill Self has had nine 30-win seasons as the head coach of Kansas basketball, and there’s no reason to think the 2020-21 team can’t be No. 10. The Jayhawks are returning quite a bit of talent from last season including Marcus Garrett, Ochai Agbaji, David McCormack, and Christian Braun.

Of course, there will be no replacing All-Americans Udoka Azubuike and Devon Dotson; however, the Jayhawks do have a solid recruiting class coming.

The Kansas Jayhawks recruiting class of 2021 is headlined by five-star guard Bryce Thompson who should be a lot of fun to watch next season. Four-star recruits Tyon Grant-Foster and Gethro Muscadin could also see some playing time too.

Kansas basketball will be playing a tough schedule next season, so getting to the 30-win mark certainly will not be easy. In their non-conference games alone, they’ll have to face a number of probable top 15 teams including Kentucky, Creighton, and possibly Virginia too.

Then of course, there’s the Big 12 schedule too. Baylor, Texas Tech, and West Virginia should all be strong teams next season, and the difference between winning and losing the Big 12 could be just a game or two. For Kansas, repeating is very possible and should be the goal for the Jayhawks during the regular season.

A term that has cropped up with players returning from last season is “unfinished business.” The disappointment from not getting to play in the NCAA Tournament after having a remarkable year seems to have had an impact and created a sense of urgency for the 2020-21 season.

With a hall of fame coach, a ton of returning and incoming talent, plus the pain of not having the 2020 NCAA Tournament, the Jayhawks should be back with a vengeance next season. Based on those factors, this Kansas team should expect themselves to win 30+ games.
