Goal Three: Win five or more games

I know what you’re thinking, “why not six games so we can qualify for a bowl game?” Well, you have to consider the past decade of Kansas football. This program hasn’t won more than three games in a season since 2009 when they won five games. It really has been that long and expecting this team to make a huge leap to six wins in Les Miles’ second season seems unrealistic.

Six wins could happen, but a five-win season would honestly be very impressive for Miles. Even if he wins just four, he’d have the most successful season of any Kansas football head coach in over a decade.

Sorry for depressing you, Jayhawk football fans.

Here’s the Kansas football schedule in 2020:

  • New Hampshire – 9/5/2020
  • @ Baylor – 9/12/20
  • Boston College – 9/19/20
  • @ Coastal Carolina – 9/26/20
  • Iowa State Cyclones – 10/3/20
  • @ Kansas State – 10/10/20
  • Oklahoma State – 10/17/20
  • @ West Virginia – 10/24/20
  • Texas – 11/7/20
  • @ Texas Tech –  11/14/20
  • @ Oklahoma – 11/21/20
  • TCU – 11/28/20

Two games the Jayhawks should win for sure are against New Hampshire at home and Coastal Carolina on the road. Those are two programs that shouldn’t even be on the same field as a power five conference school, so those games should be easy wins for the Jayhawks.

The Boston College game is another one Kansas can win, but it won’t be easy. The Eagles ended up finishing their season with a 6-7, so they aren’t awful. The problem this season is that many of Kansas’ “easier” games are on the road, rather than at home.

One road game the Jayhawks could pick up is against Texas Tech, who Kansas beat last year. The Red Raiders are predicted to finish near the bottom of the conference according to Athlon. Finally, the game against TCU to end the year is a possible win for the Jayhawks.

The Horned Frogs have been trending down in the past two years, and if that trend continues Kansas could take advantage of it.
