3. Gethro Muscadin, Forward/Center – Four-star recruit

Gethro Muscadin, a four-star recruit according to Rivals, is an interesting prospect for the Jayhawks. Kansas had to fend off in-state rival Kansas State to land Muscadin, making the commitment just that much sweeter. Muscadin also held offers from Memphis, Houston, Connecticut, Texas Tech, and others.

Out-recruiting some of those high-profile schools like Texas Tech and Memphis just goes to show how great of a recruiter Bill Self is, even with the threat of NCAA sanctions.

The six-foot-ten forward out of Louisville Kentucky was offered by Kansas last year in August. He committed in October and signed in mid-November.

Look for him to become a bigger part of the Jayhawks in his sophomore and junior seasons since it’ll be a few years before Muscadin makes an impact for the Jayhawks. While Muscadin could see some time in his freshman season, he’ll likely be playing behind David McCormack, Silvio De Sousa, and Mitch Lightfoot.

Once again though, Muscadin has time on his side.

Kansas’ great reputation for developing long-term players speaks for itself, as he could easily develop into a legitimate pro prospect. Here’s what head coach Bill Self had to say about Gethro Muscadin and his high ceiling:

"“At 6-foot-10, this past summer Gethro showed everybody that he can shoot the basketball with range. He’s a runner. He’s a jumper. He’s a shot blocker. His activity level is very high. We feel like he is a guy that could develop into one of the better big men in this class.”"

Muscadin could end up being a huge steal for the Jayhawks if Self was correct in his analysis, and who’s going to doubt Self?
