Kansas basketball recently extended an offer four-star recruit Tamar Bates of Piper High School in Kansas City.

Kansas basketball recently finished filling out its 2020 recruiting class, headlined by five-star guard Bryce Thompson. The Jayhawks have an empty 2021 class so far, but they just offered four-star recruit, Tamar Bates.

Bates is a talented guard out of Piper High School in Kansas City, Kansas. He now holds offers from all three Kansas schools, in addition to Missouri, Creighton, Oklahoma State, Northwestern, and others. Bates visited Kansas unofficially back in October of 2019, since then, he’s also visited Creighton.

A six-foot-four 175 pound, guard, Bates is ranked as the no. 95 overall prospect in the country by Rivals. He’d be a huge pickup for Bill Self and the Jayhawks considering how hard it is to recruit with the threat of NCAA sanctions. Here’s Bates’ Twitter post announcing his offer:

Bill Self does have one recruiting advantage though: Christian Braun.

Braun went to nearby Blue Valley Northwest High School and has proven how much success local recruits can have at Kansas. As a three-star prospect, Braun has cracked the starting lineup in his freshman year and become an extremely important part of the Jayhawks’ success.

Braun even quoted Bates’ offer tweet showing his support:

"“familllyyy 🤞you already know what to do my boy 🖤”"

Bill Self and the Jayhawks have offered 14 prospects so far in the 2021 class, but haven’t got a commitment yet. In Kansas basketball’s currently empty 2021 recruiting class, Bates could be the one to break the ice with a commitment.

It may be a while before the Jayhawks get a commitment from the 2021 class though. Obviously there’s quite a bit of time left for recruits to make a decision, but there’s also the NCAA notice of allegations. Future prospects may understandably want to see what becomes of the allegations, before committing to play.

Still, Tamar Bates is a baller that can help the Jayhawks out in the future. Landing him should be a priority for the staff, lest he decides on another school in the Big 12 like Oklahoma State or Kansas State.
