Bill Self and Kansas basketball have landed their first recruit of the 2020 class. Four-star junior college transfer Tyon Grant-Foster will be joining the Jayhawks in 2020.

Finally, Kansas basketball picked up its first commitment for the class of 2020. Tyon Grant-Foster is a six-foot-six-inch 190 pound small forward from Kansas City, Kansas who graduated from KC Schlagle High School. Grant-Foster has made it clear how being close to home influenced his decision to commit to Kansas:

"“I felt like I would have the same opportunities at other schools, but if I can get this opportunity and I can do it at home, close to where I’m from, that’s a blessing. It would be a real bad idea if I turned it down.” – Tyon Grant-Foster from the Lawrence Journal World"

Grant-Foster has been playing for Indian Hills C.C. in Iowa where he’s put up some impressive numbers. Last season in 32 games, Grant-Foster averaged 8.2 points and 4.2 rebounds per game. Grant-Foster has been touted as one of the top JUCO prospects in the 2020 recruiting class.

Grant-Foster announced his commitment to Kansas basketball earlier today via Twitter and a video:

Not only is this a big pickup for the Jayhawks, but also an important recruiting victory. Among Kansas, Grant-Foster was also considering other Big 12 schools including Iowa State and Kansas State.

While Sanctions are in Kansas basketball’s future, the fact that the Jayhawks are still able to recruit top-tier talent is a good sign. Bill Self and the coaching staff are fighting an uphill battle, so any prospect the Jayhawks can land is an important one.

Tyon Grant-Foster is an exceptional athlete that will undoubtedly help Kansas in the very near future. He seems like the kind of recruit that Bill Self and the other coaches will shape into an even better basketball player during his time with the Jayhawks.
