Kansas basketball fans are hurting for Udoka Azubuike. His knee injury was the focus of a lot of sympathy on social media.

The Kansas basketball team is without Udoka Azubuike for the Big 12 tournament. Jayhawk fans across the country were were not sure what to think when the news broke Wednesday afternoon. Media, fans and other used social media to discuss the news. All Jayhawk fans are disappointed. Especially fans who had tickets to see the Crimson and Blue in action at Sprint Center.

It would have been interesting to hear the discussions surrounding Dok’s injury.  As a matter of fact, I’m sure the players, coaches and trainers were initially shocked. Was it serious, did he need to just walk it off or was this something that might heal in a day or two? I’m glad Dok is sitting this weekend out.

A statement from Hall of Fame coach Bill Self indicated the sprained knee happened Tuesday in practice. Most of us have had a knee sprain or strain. Few of us are 7-foot, 280-pound basketball stars.  It was great to see him walking with the other players in photos on social media Wednesday.

Let the Jayhawk trainer perform his magic

Jayhawk fans exploded with an outpouring of love and sympathy for the All-Bill 12 Second Team center. Most of us remember the disappointment we felt last season when Dok hurt his wrist in practice. This knee injury sounds far less serious.  Jayhawk trainer Bill Cowgill has been on the job 10 years in Lawrence. This won’t be his biggest assignment but as important as any. We all want Dok to rest and get ready to have a fantastic NCAA tournament.
