There are many questions facing the Kansas basketball team as post season begins. Which Jayhawk team will show up for Big 12 Tournament play?

The Kansas basketball team has experienced a roller coaster ride this season. At times they looked like one of the nation’s best teams.  Their play in the Champions Classic was not perfect but they ran off the Wildcats that night in Chicago. A few weeks later, the Jayhawks struggled in a disappointing loss to Washington at Sprint Center.  Just when you believe Devonte Graham and the team is on a roll, the Big 12 Champions took a mental break and dropped another game to Oklahoma State.

Despite the conference title, Hall of Fame coach Bill Self thought his team would be ready for revenge Saturday in Stillwater.  They made a couple of runs at the Cowboys but were not mentally ready to win a tough battle. Will the Jayhawks have the same mindset when the open Big 12 Tournament play?  We know Big 12 Player of the Year Devonte Graham will be ready. Will he get help from teammates?

Post season conference tournaments are fun for fans and great for the media. On the other hand, they are difficult for coaches and players.  The winners are pleased but the focus is always on the NCAA Tournament. As soon the game ends and the trophy awarded everyone turns their attention to the Big Dance. Do the Jayhawks care about a strong showing in the conference tournament?  This team already proved they are the best in the Big 12.

As a matter of fact, any of the ten teams has what it takes to win this year’s Big 12 Conference tournament.  The Jayhawks probably need at least one win in Kansas City heading into Selection Sunday.  I don’t want to see them take a two game losing streak into the opening round of the NCAA tournament.  Winning the Big 12 Tournament is a nice goal. However, most Jayhawk fans would prefer the Crimson and Blue save some gas for next week.
