The Kansas football team has nothing to lose in their final home game. The pregame coin toss against Oklahoma is going viral.

It is Senior Day at Memorial Stadium in Lawrence. The Kansas football team is facing Heisman Trophy Candidate Baker Mayfield and #3 ranked Oklahoma. The Jayhawks have nothing to lose except another game in a disappointing season.

As a matter of fact, the usual, boring pregame coin toss at midfield is one for the history books and is going viral. When Mayfield approached the Kansas football captains and extended his hand they refused to acknowledge the Sooner quarterback. The Jayhawk captains just stood and stared.

Mayfield seemed to laugh it off and the players exchanged words. A referee ultimately got involved as the players left the field. Reporters, fans watching the ESPN broadcast and many others decided to have fun with this now coin toss challenge. Many wondered if the Jayhawks might have lit the fuse on a bomb that might backfire?

On the other hand, the Jayhawks did win the toss and decided to kick to open the game. The Kansas defense did show they meant business. They stopped Mayfield and the prolific Sooner offense on their opening drive. They also had Mayfield stopped on the next possession. On fourth and one from the KU 34, Mayfield danced away from the Jayhawk defense and threw a touchdown pass.

The Jayhawks showed they could hold their own against Mayfield in the first quarter. I’m not sure why coach David Beaty would allow the captains to fire up a Heisman Candidate but it certainly fired up the Jayhawks early.
