Kansas football coach David Beaty is usually great at visiting with the media. He had a tough time answering questions Monday.

I doubt there are many Kansas football fans who feel sorry for coach David Beaty.  The University pays him a lot of money to do a very difficult job. As a matter of fact, the university gave him a big raise about this time last year. He gets paid to take the heat and the heat is on.

The usually media friendly Beaty had a difficult time answering questions during Monday’s Big 12 football coaches teleconference. It actually could have been much worse considering Saturday’s poor performance. It really doesn’t matter the question. He didn’t want to give answers. I’ve never heard him sound the way he did Monday.

I’m sure Beaty expected some negative. Fans, the media and many others are not happy.

I like Beaty’s shoot from the hip style with the media.  He just tells it like it is. On the other hand, his folksy Texas drawl and “aw shucks” attitude is getting old.  It’s fine when the team is winning. This team is far from winning anything.

Beaty is a fine salesman. He knows how to sell Kansas football and is good at getting players to come see what Lawrence has to offer.  Selling and coaching are not the same thing. In addition, some might suggest Beaty is selling the wrong kids.  I don’t want to criticize the Kansas athletes but many certainly didn’t show up in the second half of Saturday’s loss to Baylor.

Beaty has a mess on his hands. The university probably can’t get rid of him. Who would want to lead Kansas football if they fire another coach? The university needs to see something positive on the football field over the final three games of the 2017 season.  It might be too late for that.
