It is a very big week for Kansas basketball coach Bill Self.   He is set for enshrinement in the Basketball Hall of Fame.

The governor of Kansas needs to declare it Bill Self week. This week the Jayhawk head coach will be inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. There are dozens of responsibilities, receptions and events before the actual enshrinement ceremony.

I am sure nobody reading this takes Kansas basketball coach Bill Self for granted. On the other hand, at times we need to take time to slow down and really appreciate what Self does and what he has done for the game we love. He certainly deserves this week’s special attention and more.

As a matter of fact, the Kansas basketball program is celebrating the Hall of Fame enshrinement with video comments from former players and coaches. These touching tributes come from Self’s first head coaching job at ORU to names Kansas basketball fans love.  Danny Manning, Keith Langford, Tyshawn Taylor, coach Joe Dooley and others share from the heart about Self.

On Wednesday, Self begins a busy week of responsibilities prior to the induction ceremony.  Members of the class of 2017 are scheduled for an autograph signing, a Hall of Fame jacket presentation along with an awards dinner and auction, according to a media release from the Hall of Fame.

Friday is the big day. It begins with a VIP reception. Self and the class of 2017 will mingle with previous Hall of Fame recipients before his big acceptance speech. We all know and expect coach Self to give credit to dozens of others at the induction ceremony at Springfield Symphony Hall.  This week he deserves all the credit.
