Kansas football: Jayhawks name team captains
By Stan Unruh
The Kansas Football team is roaring into the first game week of the 2017 season. On Sunday, the Jayhawks announced team captains.
It is finally here. We are just days from the opening kickoff of the Kansas football season. On Sunday, the Jayhawks used social media to announce the new team captains. The team leaders include three on defensive: Tackle Daniel Wise, defensive end Dorance Armstrong Jr. and linebacker Joe Dineen Jr. The captains on offense include senior running back Denzell Evans and junior wide receiver Jeremiah Booker.
Wise is a 6-foot 3-inch, 290-pound defensive tackle who earned several All Big 12 honors in 2016. You may remember him for blocking three kicks so far during his Jayhawk career. His presence on the defensive front is critical to defensive coordinator Clint Bowen’s success.
It’s no secret Dorance Armstrong is the star of the Kansas defense. On the other hand, Daniel Wise is not far behind. The two are outstanding choices to lead the team as captains along with linebacker Joe Dineen, Jr. You won’t find a better trio of leaders. I expect Dineen to have an amazing season after he lost most of 2016 to a leg injury.
No Quarterback Captain
As a matter of fact, I am surprise a quarterback is not among the captains on the Jayhawk offense. Since David Beaty has not chosen a signal caller to start the season, we have two others who will do just fine.

Junior wide receiver Jeremiah Booker should be on the receiving end of a lot of passes from whoever is at quarterback. He is one smart student athlete, according to his KU athletics bio. The Jayhawks will rely on his brains and speed in 2017. You may not know senior running back Denzell Evans. He did play in all 12 games in 2016. As a captain this season, we may get the chance to see more of him in action.
