Is Mitchell Robinson shopping beyond Kansas basketball?

Kansas basketball fans are impatient. It’s been almost a week and they want news that Mitchell Robinson is going to play for the Jayhawks.

The Kansas basketball team needs help in the paint. It would be nice to add a 7-foot tall rim protector. On the other hand, it has to be the right player. Marvin Bagley III, described by CBS as the best high school prospect in the word announced Monday he wanted to play for a school in the Atlantic Coast Conference. It certainly didn’t surprise me.  He never visited Lawrence. He is not and was not the right player.

Last weekend, big man Mitchell Robinson did take a tour of the Kansas basketball program. Upon arriving in Lawrence, he announced his delight on social media.  That’s the latest we know until a report Wednesday.

CBS college basketball guru Jon Rothstein reported on social media Robinson decided to take a tour of the New Orleans basketball program. That should tell you something. How does anyone compare the Kansas basketball program and the University of New Orleans?  The Privateers play in the always competitive Southland Conference.

As a matter of fact, there are two things happening here.  Mitchell Robinson is still shopping for a school or he is running out of options.  He enrolled at Western Kentucky, attended a class and a basketball practice or two.  The Hilltoppers held summer workouts prior to a trip for exhibition games similar to the Kansas basketball trip to Italy.

We don’t know why he quietly left Western Kentucky. Kansas basketball fans believe Robinson might help the Jayhawks this season. On the other hand, the NCAA probably will not allow him to play this season.  We don’t even know if Bill Self offered Robinson a scholarship. I trust Bill.
