As expected, Marvin Bagley III, is not going to play for Bill Self. The decision might be a good for Kansas Basketball.

The Kansas basketball team needs help in paint. It would be nice to add a 6-foot 11-inch rim protector. On the other hand, it has to be the right player. Marvin Bagley III, described by CBS as the best high school prospect in the word, is not the right player.

Bagley who did not visit Lawrence announced Monday he wants to play in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Gary Parish at CBS indicated Bagley did make trips to USC, UCLA and another school in the ACC. I wish Bagley had visited the Kansas campus but he didn’t. The Kansas basketball team took a trip to Italy while Bagley supposedly worked on his decision to go to college or back to high school.

What does that say about Bagley’s decision? Attend college or return to high school.  As a matter of fact, it is no secret Bagley really does not want to play college basketball. He announced he is attending college but he really just wants to play in the NBA as fast as possible. I can’t blame him but that may not work out well.

Last weekend, big man Mitchell Robinson did take a tour of the Kansas basketball program. We know he wants to go to college. He already attended a class at Western Kentucky. However, that could keep him from playing for Bill Self this season.

Teenagers are difficult to predict.  We don’t know what prompted Robinson to leave the Hilltoppers. We don’t know why Bagley decided to try go to college a year early. I believe Kansas basketball will look back and be thankful for the decision of both players.
