Kansas Volleyball deserves national attention
By Stan Unruh
The amazing Kansas volleyball program is getting a little more national respect. The team is ranked in the top-ten to begin the 2017 season.
The successful tradition of Kansas volleyball continues to grow. Coach Ray Bechard’s team has earned a little more national attention and they certainly deserve it. The new American Volleyball Coaches Poll included the Jayhawks in the top-ten. The defending Big 12 champs sit at number 8. Their rivals in Austin are the nation’s top ranked team in this poll.
Many Kansas fans believe the Jayhawks, who won the conference title over their Lone Star State rivals deserve more. I tend to agree. The Jayhawks have eight seniors on the 2017 team including the Big 12 preseason player of the year Kelsie Payne. Outside hitter Madison Rigdon and Setter Ainise Havili are just as important to this squad.
If you aren’t familiar with Kansas Volleyball, you need to pay attention. This team is has earned every bit of their national top-ten attention. They are incredibly talented, very well coached and really fun to watch. The team is so exciting, you won’t be able to stay in your seat.
As a matter of fact, there are many Big 12 teams who will want revenge this season. Iowa State, Baylor and the ‘Cats in Manhattan also received votes in this week’s national poll. The work to defend the conference title won’t be easy.
