The Kansas basketball team can always use another 7-foot tall player. A social media campaign is urging five-star Mitchell Robinson to play for the Jayhawks.

It is going to be a busy weekend for Bill Self and the Kansas basketball coaching staff. It is work they didn’t expect. As a matter of fact, nobody did. A McDonald’s All-American is scheduled to visit campus. However, Mitchell Robinson may have to skip the upcoming season.

A few days ago, Robinson was taking a class and practicing at Western Kentucky, according to The Sporting News. The young man decided to leave and didn’t tell anyone, according to a report from Gary Bedore in the KC Star. He is not just a 7-foot-tall basketball recruit, he is a teenager. Kids do crazy things and change their minds. This could work out nicely for the Jayhawks.

Someone started a twitter account #mitchrobtoKU, in an effort to convince Robinson to play for Bill Self. I liked the fact that a Kansas basketball fan took the time to use social media this way. On the other hand, Mitchell Robinson needs to look far beyond his phone to make this important decision.

Playing basketball at the University of Kansas and in the Big 12 Conference is far different than at Western Kentucky in Conference USA. This is a difficult time for the young man. He has a tough decision ahead. I hope his trip to Lawrence is a good one. Bill Self could use another big man.

We don’t know what Mitchell Robinson wants or what he needs. Western Kentucky coach Rick Stansbury did release Robinson from his scholarship agreement. The fine folks at the NCAA will now determine when Robinson can play. I doubt they will let him suit up for Bill Self this fall.
