Pre-season recognition continues to come in for Kansas football. David Beaty’s offensive  needs all the confidence possible heading into the season.

David Beaty’s Kansas offense has had a difficult time the past two seasons. After a 55-point in the season opening win over that football power Rhode Island, the Jayhawks averaged just over 14 points in their final 11 games.

This Kansas football team needs anything and everything to help with confidence on the offensive side of the ball.

Earlier this spring the player at the center of the Kansas offensive line Mesa Ribordy learned he is among the tops in Division 1 football at his position.  On Tuesday, the Rimington Trophy Committee released its fall watch list that also included the Louisburg, Kansas native.

This is important for so many reasons.  Blocking and protecting the quarterback are two of the biggest issues on any team. The Jayhawk offensive line needs a leader. The quarterback needs protection. I don’t care who Beaty decides to be the starter at quarterback. If the line doesn’t block it won’t matter.

The Rimington Trophy is presented annually to the Most Outstanding Center in NCAA Division I-A College Football, as described in a media release from the organization.

Also on Tuesday, a second member of Beaty’s offense, tight end Ben Johnson received national attention.  In light of his play last season, the senior is on the preseason watch list for the 2017 John Mackey Award. Johnson earned All-Big 12 honorable mention in 2015. As a matter of fact, I think he is a better blocker for the running game than receiver.  The recognition for both players should help Beaty’s team as they prepare to start fall camp in a few weeks.
