Maybe Kansas football needs an official brew too

Football and beer took a big leap forward last week. A Big 12 University and a well know brew joined forces. Maybe Kansas football needs to do the same.

I do not have any definitive facts. On the other hand, I do know Kansas football fans who drink a lot of beer among other things.  Some say they have to drink or they simply are not able to watch Kansas football games.  I won’t go that far but it has been difficult for Kansas football fans the past decade.

After last season’s overtime win against Texas, Kansas fans drank for another reason. Fans celebrated the amazing accomplishment due to the hard work by David Beaty, his staff and the Jayhawk team. The fans in Austin were so frustrated they fired their head coach the following week.

In addition to bringing in a new head coach, the Longhorns surprised me last week when they named Corona as an official sponsor of the football team.  Is it a first?  I doubt it. As a matter of fact I’m sure Notre Dame must have a beer as a sponsor.  If they don’t they sure should.

Andy Staples on SI.com decided to consider pairing a number of college football programs with a variety of alcoholic beverages. Beyond Texas, he included three other Big 12 schools including David Beaty’s Kansas Jayhawks.

Staples’s thought Kansas football fans needed to partner with Boulevard Bourbon Barrel Quad due to the frustration fans must feel.

In light of their 21 losses in the past three seasons, it is Texas not Kansas football who felt they needed to partner with a brewer.  We’ll see who is drinking and why when the Jayhawks play in Austin on Saturday November 11.
