More pre-season good news for Kansas football
By Stan Unruh
Kansas football fans have a lot had a lot of positive off-season news to follow. They have a future star on defense ready for a big junior season.
With the month of July finally here, Kansas football fans know that means the countdown to football season ramps up in a big way. There are a stack of pre-season college football magazines on my desk. I usually wait until July to start reading them. It’s just my habit. – wait until July and savor each of the periodicals. There is no reason to race through them as soon as they hit the newsstand or mailbox.
On the other hand, the online Sports Illustrated article on the top college football players of 2017 did get my full attention. Kansas football coach David Beaty must be very pleased that they included a Jayhawk. First team All-Big 12 Defensive End Dorance Armstrong deserves all the pre-season attention.
The 6-foot 4-inch speedster is just a Junior and prime for another outstand season for the Crimson and Blue. After recording 10 sacks last season and 20 tackles-for-loss loss he deserves all the pre-season attention.
A couple of weeks ago, the Athlon college football folks named Armstrong a pre-season All-American. That was easy for their writers. He earned consensus first team All-Big 12 last season. You may not know that he is the only Kansas football player named unanimously by the league coaches to the first team, according to a media release from Kansas Athletics.

As a matter of fact, David Beaty and Assistant Head coach, Defensive Coordinator Clint Bowen just may have a star in the making. In like manner, Armstrong needs to follow the example of Kansas basketball star Frank Mason. Keep your head down, work hard and let the results speak for themselves. The NFL is already well aware of this talented Jayhawk.
