Big 12 instability: Kansas football must win now
By Stan Unruh
The University of Kansas is fortunate the Big 12 is healthy financially. Despite that , the pressure is on Kansas football to produce a consistent winner.
Is the University of Kansas safe in the Big 12 Conference? We know the answer.
As a matter of fact, we want to believe they are safe. If money were the only issue, the Big 12 is in good shape.
You may have missed the report late last week that indicated the conference is doing quite well. Or is it?
The Associated Press reported the league had another year of record revenue. Money is good but is way down the list on items that could one day destroy the league.
David Boren, president at the University of Oklahoma and the Chairman of the Big 12 Board of Directors also said he was optimistic about the future of the conference.
Forget that the ten conference schools will split $348 million – up from $106 million ten years ago.
I’m not sure I believe everything Boren said. I’m not sure OU is thrilled hanging out in a conference with the University of Kansas and especially the University of Texas.
Boren also said he wanted to see the end of the talk of league instability.
That is a lofty goal. However, Boren’s days as chair of the board are at an end.
Nobody knows what will happen to the Big 12 Conference. This is why Kansas football coach David Beaty needs the Jayhawk football program to succeed quickly.

We all love Bill Self and the basketball program. However, one day the consecutive conference titles won’t mean much in the face of conference realignment.
The clock is ticking on existing television agreements.
Someone, somewhere is sitting in a smoke filled
back room working to realign the conference you love.
Television does not care about the fans or the rivalry games. The pressure is Kansas football.
