Recruiting is a full-time job for Kansas basketball and football coaches. Now they have another advantage over one Big 12 school.
NCAA rules prevent Kansas coaches from working 12 months a year on recruiting. Despite that, we know Bill Self and David Beaty think about it almost every day.
It is an intense battle. Without the players, you can’t be competitive.
In addition to Kansas basketball, football and other Jayhawk athletic programs, the University is in competition for the best students and staff in the country.
How difficult is it to lure students and professors to campus?
Some say all you need to do is get a student to visit Lawrence, attend a Kansas basketball game at Allen Fieldhouse and they are sold.
While it helps, that is not always the case.
A former college football coach handed Kansas and coaches across the conference an advantage in recruiting.
Tommy Tuberville was once mentioned as a possible candidate to lead the Jayhawks. After a successful run at Auburn, he led Texas Tech for 4 seasons and won 29 games. He abruptly left for Cincinnati.
This week, Tuberville made very disparaging comments of life in Lubbock.
He compared it to Siberia and Iraq as reported by Auburn247Sports.com.

I’m sure David Beaty might consider using these comments when the Kansas football staff is recruiting against Kliff Kingsbury.
Bill Self and his staff might not have as many opportunities to use this on behalf of Kansas Basketball.
I’m sure he and the other coaches in the conference will remember it and use it whenever necessary.
if necessary.
