Reasons 25-1 it’s Great to be a Jayhawk

25. You traveled to Malibu in 2003 to cover the KU volleyball team’s first NCAA Tournament appearance for the University Daily Kansan. Wait, that was me.

24. You’re not a Mizzou fan.

23. Because if you were, you may have been a part of this disaster.

22. The late Dean Smith, a great basketball coach, activist and human being, was proud to be a Jayhawk.

21. KU  has produced such a long line of who’s who in college basketball coaching, seven arenas around the nation are named after Jayhawk alumni.

20. Jim Ryun, the first high school male to break the four-minute mile, ran for the Jayhawk track team.

19. The men aren’t the only ballers in Lawrence. Former women’s basketball player Lynette Woodard was the first female member of the Harlem Globetrotters, and won a gold medal in the 1984 Olympics as a member of the U.S. women’s basketball team.

18. Former Jayhawk running back John Riggins is in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and former Jayhawk QB John Hadl is considered by some as one of the best quarterbacks not in the HOF.

17. You know that if you can’t make it to a Jayhawk basketball game, you can always find them on TV — that is unless you live in the actual town they play basketball in and chose the wrong cable provider.
