Coaching changes have had a huge impact on Kansas football. David Beaty may have a slight advantage on the rest of the conference this year.

Change is difficult. I don’t like change. Kansas football fans have had too many changes over the past decade.  In business, employers spend a lot of time recruiting and doing their best to retain good staff.  On the other hand, they also spend time finding ways to get rid of some under-performing employees.

College athletics is no different.  Athletic directors look for good coaches who can bring in a quality coaching staff to build a successful program. It is not ideal if the head coach has to spend a majority of time recruiting and replacing his staff.

A little staff turnover is inevitable. Some of the most successful college football programs are known for very little staff turnover.   There are others who seem to thrive despite turnover.  Over the past decade, fans have watched Kansas football experience an abundance of coaching turnover.  From head coaches, offensive coordinators and more.

Compared to the rest of the Big 12, Kansas football may have a slight advantage in year three of the David Beaty era. Chris Vannini compiled a list of the football coaching staff changes among the Big 12 schools for the Coachingsearch web site.

It includes the three changes on the Kansas football staff.  One of those changes is just a promotion. Coach Beaty promoted Garrett Riley from an analyst to quarterback coach.

Defensive coordinator Clint Bowen is the most senior member of the staff. This is his 17th season and 20th overall working for Kansas football.   Bowen and co-defensive coordinator, cornerbacks coach Kenny Perry (third year) are critical to the success of this team.

Beaty is making progress recruiting good players and limiting coaching turnover All this should have a positive impact on the field this fall.
